Masters Block 3 Gala – 5th October 2019
Due to a number of factors it has been a fairly quiet year for the Adult Masters Squad of Warminster and District Swimming Club which is why, albeit with a reduced strength team due to three members being unwell, swimmers were determined to make their mark as a squad at the final major County Level Gala of the year at Salisbury on Saturday 5th October. This they certainly did and besides winning 38 medals members broke four County records. In addition again, for a second year running, Jane Snedden won the Ladies over 40s trophy. It proved to be a very worthwhile and enjoyable evenings swimming.
Leading the way in terms of individual medals won, four swimmers gained five medals each – Beth Hargreaves, Jane Snedden, Ross Dewey and Simon Mullinger deserve great credit for achieving this.
Dan Hawley was in excellent form and won four medals and our own Olympian Roland Lee broke three County records in 100m individual medley, 25m butterfly and 50m freestyle events. Club President Doug Winstone broke one County record in the 25m backstroke winning also a medal in the 50m freestyle. Other medals were won by Stuart Bremner , Ian Parker , Karen Penny , Richard Payne and Ian Hutchison – competing in his first County level Gala. Whilst Paula Farrell and Martin Somervell did not feature in the medals tally they well contributed to the overall effort. All this led to the Squad ending the 2019 season in fourth place in the County. Head Coach Anthony Phillips was well pleased with the efforts of all concerned in a much reduced squad and added that with it back to full strength shortly there was every prospect of a really successful season to come in 2020.
