A squad of 42 young, and experienced swimmers, plus a supporting team of coaches, poolside support and parents from Warminster & District Amateur Swimming Club travelled to Bradford on Avon on 16th September 2017 for the last of four heats of the Wiltshire Summer Moonraker League.
The league is made up of 5 divisions, where Warminster currently reside in Division 3, competed with teams from Swindon, Wroughton, and Bradford on Avon.
At the start of the meet Warminster ASC were leading the division with 452 points, Swindon sat a close second with 423 points, Wroughton 330 points, and Bradford on Avon 263 points.
The evening’s races comprised of relays and individual races and included some team members making their debut.
Supporters cheered from the sidelines and with each race the buzz around the team grew and grew. Ultimately, the team finished in top place with 146 points consolidating their promotion to Division 2 for next summer.
Warminster’s Head Coach and Chairman, Anthony Phillips made the following comments:-
‘Going into the Gala on Saturday we had a slender points advantage over the second placed Club after the first three rounds.
But more importantly history beckoned for the Club as Warminster had never been in Division 2 of the Moonraker Summer League in the new format.
Having worked hard over the Summer and beginning of September the squad were ready to battle for every point. What followed was an incredible few hours of hard fought victories over the three other clubs we were competing against.
The whole squad from first time swimmers to swimmers who have swam lots of times swam their hearts out, putting everything in for themselves, their team mates and their Club.
The coaching staff are incredible proud of every swimmer. Not only did they work hard on the night but for months and even years beforehand’.
